Seen at Stonecrop Gardens in Putnam County, NY.

Scarecrows generally have fairly indeterminate shapes, but for the most part they seem to be male – possibly because they don’t usually have curves. I liked this one because it’s obviously female. Actually it reminds me a bit of my grandmother – who owned a farm, went through three husbands and raised four children largely by herself.

I also like the swirly out of focus areas (sorry but I can’t stand the word ‘bokeh’) produced by this 1950s vintage Carl Zeiss, 58mm f2 Biotar (on a Sony Nex 5N)
