I took the dog for a walk at our old stomping grounds, the Rockefeller Preserve, the other day. I used to come here a lot with our former dog, but nowadays we spend a fair bit of our time further north so I don’t get there as much.
This scene was captured along the Pocantico River trail. I’ve taken pictures of this particular rock and tree before, but I like this one best. The “wispy” roots of the tree seem so ephemeral to me as if they might get washed away by the Pocantico River (a glimpse of which can be seen at the bottom left). The rock on the other hand represents stability and strength. It’s been there a while and I don’t see it going anywhere in the near future. I also find the variety of colors (reds, oranges, yellows, browns, greens, blues) appealing.
